Karen (Henrikson)Boysen born and raised in Mentor,
Ohio began her riding career at the age of 7. She began showing ponies and worked her way through the childrens
division and in to the jumper ring.
Karen spent numerous hours training with such people as Elizabeth
Porter, Terry Thompson, Beth Nielson, Sue Coen, and Kim McElroy. Karen attended Lake Erie
College. While in college Karen excelled in the Equitation ring. She rode in the IHSA as well as OPHA winning numerous
championships. Her greatest accoplishment was in 1994 when she was awared the title of Reserve National IHSA
EQ Champion. Karen spent the following summer riding and training in Northern California under
the guidence of Constance Kilmartain of Orchard Hill. Karen and her jumper The Pineapple
were successful in the children /adult jumper ring, but most of all she learned a thing or two and had a fantastic
time !
After college Karen spent time traveling with a local hunter /jumper farm
in Ohio, Lenehan Inc. Karen was under the guidence of Kevin and Karen Lenehan. Here Karen
learned the ins and outs of the horse show world, grooming, riding and teaching
Karen graduated from Lake Erie College with a degree in Education.
She began her career as a special education teacher in 1998 and is still teaching children with special needs today. While
focusuing on her career, Karen rode her horse "Cheeks"at a local farm. Altough out of showing for awhile, Karen
still kept her foot in the ring helping other with their horses.
In 2003 Karen purchased a hunter, Storm Warning! "Warren" was
very successful in the Hunter ring! Numerous year end awards and again Karen excelled in the Adult Equitation finishing the
year as Reserve Champion OPHA. Adult EQ . Due to her pregnancy Karen had to sell
"Warren" He is currently showing in upstate NY.
Karen and her husband Mike and their son Adam live in Woodstock ,Georgia.
Karen has been teaching lessons at a local farm and has begun her career as a professional. Look for Karen and her students
on the Atlanta circut!
